Carlton Ware World is run by Harvey Pettit for collectors and enthusiasts of pottery made at the Carlton Works in Copeland Street, Stoke, Staffordshire by Messrs Wiltshaw & Robinson, makers of Carlton Ware.
It is also a tribute to all of those who worked at the Pottery and in particular the many who gave up their time to talk to me about their working life at Copeland Street. I was always greeted with warmth on my visits to the works as well as in people's homes. Much tea was drunk during our exchanges.
All of this was made possible by Anthony Wood and his father Gerald, who bought the pottery in 1967. On our frequent visits during the 1980s, they gave us an office and the run of the works and also full access to the pottery's historical records as well as allowing us to interview their employees at their work.
I have many fond memories of my visits to Stoke-on-Trent and its kind-hearted people.
This website's primary focus is on ware made before 1989 when the Carlton Works in Copeland Street closed and the Carlton Ware trade mark sold on for use on pottery made by numerous other Staffordshire potteries.
Since 2004, through this website and its publications, Carlton Ware World has provided accurate information on this extraordinary pottery.
Carlton Ware is one of the most important smaller Staffordshire potteries of the Twentieth Century. Above all it was innovative and over its near 100 year history employed many talented designers always producing original, striking and good quality earthenwares. I hope that you find this site useful and informative.
